Memory Enhancement

Yes! - Have you ever been introduced to someone, only to forget their name moments later?  Ever walked into a room and forgot why you were there?  Well, how about this: can you remember your best friend when you were eight years old?  What table did you usually sit at in the high school cafeteria?

The power of memory never ceases to amaze me.  Even though there are times when I can't find my car keys, I can easily recite the names of every member of the 1984 Detroit Tigers (who won the World Series on my birthday that year).  Even though I occasionally forget where I parked at the mall, I can instantly and clearly recall my bedroom from when I was six years old.  I can even remember the exact sound that old TV made when I turned it off, and the first time I saw my dog when he was a puppy.

These experiences may be familiar to you as well, but it's not just a question of short-term versus long-term memory.  It's a matter of finding out how and why we remember certain things and not others.  By studying that process, we can learn better ways to remember new information.

How Do They Do It?

You may have seen one of those "geniuses" on a talk show who is introduced to 30 strangers from the studio audience, hears their names once, and later recites each name accurately without missing a beat.

It's not that these people have some special ability, they have simply figured out clever and useful ways of using their memory.  One method that works is to make a mental picture of the person's name imprinted on their forehead.  All this guy does is recall that picture, and the name is there.  There are countless ways to do this.

Who's Running The Show Up There?

Consider for a moment your conscious mind.  You're processing the information in this article with your conscious mind right now, and at the same time your subconscious mind can create images, which can either be remembered (your best friend) or constructed (did you create an image of what "my puppy" might have looked like?).

With your conscious mind, you are only capable of doing a few things at any given time.  You can talk on the phone while driving, but my experience is that people do both with far less grace and skill.
Your Subconscious Mind Never Forgets

Your subconscious mind is a vast warehouse of images, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings.  Everything you've ever experienced in your life is stored in your subconscious mind.  It's the reason you can see an old photo of a friend you haven't seen in decades and instantly recognize their face.

Now imagine that your subconscious mind is like a hard drive.  Hypnosis is like windows in that respect, as it can be used to go inside, do a search and find the information you're looking for.

Hypnosis can help you tap into the power of your subconscious mind to remember things that have long been forgotten.  It can even help you find your car keys.  In fact, in that state of relaxation, you can literally go back, retrace your steps and see exactly what happened at a particular moment in your life.
Tap Into That Power

Forget where you left your engagement ring last week?  Last year?  Ten years ago?  If the information is there, you can still find it.  It's been done.  No kidding.

Whether you want to remember information from the past or increase your ability to remember things in the future, hypnosis is a useful tool.  Now, what was I just talking about?
